There’s a Housing Crisis in America

Foreign-backed buyers are snapping up homes in America, leaving more and more Americans to rent at exorbitant prices. It’s time for a change.

  • Entities with foreign connections will be hit with progressively higher surcharges when purchasing real estate and land. Simply put, the more they buy the more they pay, to the point that it becomes totally unprofitable for them to do.

  • Apartments were never meant to support American families, and we must ensure that starter homes are available to Americans. The problem is twofold:

    1) Supply - We need to build more high quality starter homes. Although the government cannot and should not be in the business of real estate development, it can incentivize development with favorable terms for land use.

    2) Demand - In today’s economy, prospective first time homeowners need a one-off hand up. Congress should appropriate money to expand first time home buyer programs like FHA loans and the Good Neighbor program.

  • It’s increasingly common for foreign buyers to purchase American land, including farmland and plots of land near military installations. In an addition to being wrong for Americans, this is a national security concern. American farm land must remain in the hands of Americans.

I will propose a bill banning sale of land in excess of five acres and banning all land sales within 20 miles of American military installations for foreign-backed buyers.
