A Healthcare Plan For All Americans

Your tax dollars are an investment. But even though the US Government spent almost $2 trillion on healthcare in 2024, you still pay outrageous amounts in healthcare premiums and out of pocket costs.

It makes me mad, and I think it should make you mad too. Let’s invest our tax dollars smartly instead of wasting them.

The American Health Act consists of two phases: Phase I immediately covers all US citizens in a single-payer system, covering all medically necessary procedures with $0 out of pocket cost. Phase II appoints a single broker for the entire country to negotiate fair prescription drug costs for all Americans.

  • In Phase I, the average family will save $61.95 every month, or $743.40 annually, by switching to the national plan.

By Phase II, the savings will increase as the government becomes a more efficient broker in healthcare and prescription drug costs. Healthcare costs are out of control because insurance companies are incentivized to make a profit off of sick people and no entity has the clout necessary to reign prices in. A single broker creates negotiating parity, lowering prices for Americans.

  • This national plan covers all medically necessary procedures, including preventive care, diagnostics, and necessary surgery. Insurance companies may still cover, and people may optionally buy coverage for, elective procedures (like non-medically necessary plastic surgery).

  • Yes. This national plan covers all accredited hospitals and doctors offices, and Americans will always retain the right to choose their own practioners.

  • Probably in the short term, as a rush of Americans who previously couldn’t afford medical care without going into bankruptcy avail themselves of the plan.

Inside of a year, however, the system will load balance itself as initial demand subsides. Additionally, states will be incentivized to build more hospitals and hire more doctors and nurses with a cost savings of more than $5 billion/year from a national plan.

  • No. With one national plan with automatic enrollment, you will no longer have to shop around or compare plans for medically necessary care.
